Alexander Shchukin

Alexander Shchukin is a Research Fellow in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, Faculty of Engineering. His work focuses on high-temperature superconducting (HTS) technologies for sustainable energy and aerospace applications.

His research interests lie at the intersection of superconductivity, energy efficiency, and zero-emission aviation. He investigates AC loss mechanisms in ReBCO coils, develops HTS armature windings for high-power motors, and contributes to the design of superconducting propulsion systems. His work supports the development of lightweight, high-efficiency electric motors for aircraft, aligning with global sustainability goals.

The most recent publications highlight a strong trend toward applied superconductivity in real-world systems, particularly for aviation. Key themes include loss reduction, thermal management, coil manufacturing, and system integration of HTS components in motors and cryogenic setups.

He actively contributes to multiple research projects, including the Zero Emissions for Sustainable Transport (ZEST1) and the development of a 500kW superconducting propulsion system tested at MAKS-2021. He has served as Principal Investigator and Co-investigator on knowledge exchange and equipment use projects with UKAEA, facilitating training in HTS coil winding and testing techniques.

His work is supported by collaborations with leading researchers such as Prof. Min Zhang and teams at UKAEA. He has presented at major conferences including the European Conference on Applied Superconductivity and delivered invited talks on HTS motor development.
