معرفی
Associate Professor Alexander Pinto is a co-appointed faculty member between La Trobe University and the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute, leading the Cardiac Cellular Systems laboratory. His research focuses on understanding how cellular networks in the heart contribute to heart failure, particularly under conditions like hypertension, obesity, and diabetes. He employs cutting-edge methods including single-cell omics, 3D imaging, and mouse genetics to explore reversible cardiac alterations.
Research Interests:
- Cardiovascular disease mechanisms
- Systems biology and computational biology
- Single-cell genomics and transcriptomics
- 3D microscopy and imaging techniques
- Cellular interactions in fibrosis
- Sex-specific pathophysiology
Recent Research Trends: His work emphasizes multi-omic analyses of cardiac non-myocytes, sex-specific responses to hypertension, and adipose tissue contributions to cardiovascular disease. Notable contributions include identifying novel drivers of vascular fibrosis and embryonic-derived progenitor cells in aorta development.
Grants:
- Heart Foundation of Australia Future Leader Fellowship (2024–2027)
- NHMRC Ideas Grant (2020–2023)
Collaborations involve labs in Australia and the U.S., with a focus on translational cardiovascular research.
