Alexander Norquist is a Professor of Chemistry at Haverford College, specializing in the study of organically templated inorganic materials. He holds a B.A. from Gustavus Adolphus College and M.S./Ph.D. from Northwestern University, where his doctoral work focused on early transition metal oxide fluoride anions under Kenneth R. Poeppelmeier. After postdoctoral research at the University of Oxford, he joined Haverford in 2003, teaching general chemistry, advanced laboratory courses, and special topics.

- B.A., Gustavus Adolphus College
- M.S. and Ph.D., Northwestern University
His research integrates machine learning with experimental chemistry to understand crystallization processes in materials like metal-halide perovskites, vanadium tellurites, and molybdates. Current projects are funded by the National Science Foundation and DARPA, with past support from the Camille & Henry Dreyfus Foundation and the American Chemical Society Petroleum Research Fund. His work emphasizes autonomous experimentation, data quality, and the role of noncovalent interactions in material formation.
Recent publications highlight machine learning applications for predicting perovskite crystallization, dimensional control in hybrid materials, and experimental automation. While no scientific awards are explicitly listed, his contributions to materials discovery and data science in synthesis are notable. He focuses on bridging computational approaches with traditional inorganic chemistry.
