Professor Kenneth R. Poeppelmeier, the Charles E. & Emma H. Morrison Professor of Chemistry at Northwestern University, is a leading figure in inorganic solid-state chemistry. His research spans synthesis, structure, and properties of oxide and oxide-fluoride materials with applications in energy, catalysis, and electronics. He obtained his B.S. from the University of Missouri (1971) and Ph.D. from Iowa State University (1978), followed by industrial experience at Exxon (1978-1984). His group develops innovative synthetic methods like hydrothermal and flux growth to create materials for transparent conductors, battery cathodes, and non-linear optical devices.
