Alexander Norman Halliday is a Professor at Columbia University, Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, and Founding Dean Emeritus of the Columbia Climate School. He is a leading isotope geochemist known for pioneering mass spectrometry techniques in Earth and planetary sciences. His career spans roles at ETH Zürich, the University of Oxford, and the University of Michigan.
- Education: Geology and Physics doctorate from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
His research focuses on environmental geochemistry, high-temperature geochemistry, and planetary sciences, particularly the development of multiple-collector inductively-coupled plasma mass spectrometry to study planetary accretion and Earth's evolution. He has contributed to mantle geochemistry, volcanism, and pollution studies.
