Herbert Palme is a renowned geochemist and former Professor of Mineralogy and Geochemistry at the University of Cologne (1994–2008). He holds a Ph.D. in nuclear physics from the University of Vienna (1971) and habilitation in mineralogy from the University of Mainz (1985). His research focuses on meteoritics, mantle and core geochemistry, and cosmochemistry. Palme has held positions at the Max-Planck-Institut für Chemie, the University of Chicago, and the Lunar and Planetary Laboratory. He currently collaborates with the Senckenberg Research Institute in Frankfurt.
