Alexander Matros is a Professor in the Department of Economics at the Darla Moore School of Business, University of South Carolina, where he has served since 2010 after appointments at the University of Pittsburgh and University College London.
His interdisciplinary education includes:
- Ph.D. in Economics, Stockholm School of Economics (2001)
- Ph.D. in Mathematics, Moscow State University (1998)
- M.A. in Economics, New Economic School, Moscow (1997)
- M.Sc. in Mathematics, Moscow State University (1992)
Matros's research centers on evolutionary game theory, experimental game theory, contest design, and industrial organization. His work bridges mathematical rigor with experimental validation to analyze strategic behavior in competitive environments, particularly focusing on how agents adapt and interact under constraints.
Recent publications (2021-2025) reveal three dominant trends: (1) Network-embedded contests examining spatial competition and peer effects, (2) Mechanism design innovations for public goods and fundraising, and (3) Real-world applications addressing pandemic-era challenges like online cheating. His research consistently combines theoretical modeling with empirical evidence, emphasizing practical implications for economic institutions.
