Stefano Barbieri is a Professor of Economics at Tulane University, specializing in public economics, economic theory, and contest mechanisms. He holds a B.S. from Bocconi University (1998) and a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania (2004). His research examines cooperation dynamics, fundraising strategies, and collective action through the lens of game theory and public policy analysis. Barbieri’s work explores topics such as team contests, climate policy, and the efficiency of public good provision under private information constraints.
He serves as co-editor of Economic Inquiry and an associate editor of Journal of Public Economic Theory. His publications span high-impact journals like Journal of Economic Theory and RAND Journal of Economics, focusing on strategic behavior in contests, environmental policy design, and mechanisms for optimal resource allocation. Barbieri’s recent studies address climate policy under global economic shocks and the role of complementarity in team-based competitions.
His research interests emphasize theoretical frameworks for understanding how institutions and policies influence collective outcomes, particularly in contexts involving asymmetric information or strategic interactions among groups.
