Dr Alexander Maine is a Senior Lecturer at The City Law School, City, University of London, specializing in Gender, Sexuality and Law, and Family Law. He joined the institution in 2023 after roles at the University of Leicester and Northumbria University. His research focuses on LGBTQ+ legal rights, relationship recognition, and the impact of law on family life. He holds a PhD from Northumbria University and an LLB (Hons) from Newcastle University.
Dr Maine is co-editor of leading journals including the International Journal of Gender, Sexuality and Law and the Research Handbook on Gender, Sexuality and the Law. He leads initiatives such as the ESRC-funded 'LGBTQ+ Policymaking in the UK' project, bridging academic research with policy. His work also includes advisory roles on Wellcome Trust projects addressing LGBTQIA+ intimate partner violence.
Teaching responsibilities include modules on Gender, Sexuality and Law (LLM), Family Law (LLB), and Debates in English Legal Systems. He chairs the EDI committee for Sexual Orientation and Inclusivity at City Law School.
