Professor Alexander Ludwig holds the position of Professor for Public Macroeconomics at the European University Institute (EUI, Florence) since 2024. Previously, he was a Professor for Public Finance and Macroeconomic Dynamics at Goethe University Frankfurt (2014–2024). He is spokesperson of the DFG research unit on 'Macroeconomic Implications of Intra-Household Decision Making' and a principal investigator in the EU Horizon 2022 project SUSTAINWELL. He co-founded the Frankfurt Quantitative Macro Group (FQMG) and serves as a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR). He directs the ICIR and is affiliated with institutions including SAFE (Goethe University), CMR (University of Cologne), MEA Munich, Netspar, and ZEW (University of Mannheim).
His research focuses on dynamic macroeconomics with heterogeneous agents, public finance, demographic economics, and computational economics. He has participated in major initiatives like the DFG priority program 1578 and Norface DIAL projects. He serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Pension Economics & Finance and Journal of Demographic Economics.
Recent work addresses inequality through education policy, insurance demand forecasting, and demographic impacts on inflation and asset returns. He maintains active collaborations across European institutions, emphasizing quantitative macroeconomic analysis and policy design.
