Alexander L. Gabbin is a Professor and Director of the School of Accounting at James Madison University (JMU), holding the KPMG Professorship since 1994. He has been with JMU since 1985, previously serving as Program Director of the School of Professional Studies–Accounting (1997–1998) and Director of the School of Accounting (1994–1997). Prior to JMU, he was an Associate Professor at Lincoln University (1975–1985). His academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Accounting from Temple University (1986), an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago (1970), and a B.A. in Economics from Howard University (1967).
Dr. Gabbin’s research focuses on accounting education, pedagogical innovation, and program administration. His work emphasizes curriculum design, student assessment strategies, and effective teaching methodologies. Notable contributions include critiques of accounting education challenges and frameworks for evaluating teaching effectiveness.
- Awards: KPMG Professorship, Lindback Award, multiple JMU Teaching Excellence awards, and recognition from the National Black MBA Association.
- Grants: Faculty Summer Teaching Grant (1993) for case study methodology adoption and educational leave for e-database research (1998–1999).
