Alexander Krahmer serves as a Researcher at the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt within the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning and Department of Urban and Spatial Planning. Since April 2022, he has been a Research Associate in the BMBF-funded project 'LoKoNet' (Network Local Conflicts and Emotions in Urban Spaces), continuing his specialization in urban conflict dynamics and migration-related societal transformations.
His academic foundation includes:
- Magister (Master) in Sociology, Islamic Studies, and Philosophy from Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena (2009)
- Ongoing doctoral studies at Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena supervised by Prof. Dr. Tilman Reitz
- DAAD-funded research stay in Paris (2013) for dissertation fieldwork
Krahmer's research critically examines urban (in)security, social time structures, and migration-related conflicts through qualitative methodologies. His work explores how negative emotions operate in field research, analyzes polarization in urban contexts, and investigates marginalized communities as knowledge producers regarding urban insecurity. He particularly focuses on Leipzig as a case study for post-migrant society development and conflict-driven democratic learning processes.
His publication trajectory from 2017-2025 reveals consistent thematic evolution: early work centered on security distribution and time structures, progressing to detailed migration-conflict analyses in Leipzig, and culminating in theoretical contributions about conflict dynamism and post-migrant societal formation. The research demonstrates strong interdisciplinary connections between urban sociology, migration studies, and conflict theory with empirical grounding in German urban contexts.
His scientific recognition includes:
- Thuringian Pro-Excellence Initiative Scholarship (2010-2013)
- Graduate College 'Time Structures of the Social' Fellowship
- DAAD State Scholarship for Master's thesis (2008-2009)
- DAAD Research Grant for Paris fieldwork (2013)
Krahmer's research leadership spans multiple significant projects: the current 'LoKoNet' initiative (2022-present), 'MigraChance' at Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (2018-2021), and 'VERSS' at University of Tübingen's Ethics Center (2016-2017). While no formal advisees are documented, his collaborative work with Annegret Haase, Christoph Hedtke, and Katrin Großmann demonstrates team-based academic mentorship within research collectives.
He actively contributes to the Research Collective Periphery and Center and co-founded the Center for Urban Insecurity (ZuU) in 2017. His institutional collaborations extend to Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research, University of Tübingen's Ethics Center, and Schader Foundation, reflecting his integrated approach to urban conflict research across academic and policy domains.
