Alexander Kobrin is a distinguished pianist and Professor at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester. He holds the Wentworth Family Professorship of Piano. A leading international performer, he collaborates with major orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, Berliner Symphony, and BBC Symphony Orchestra, under renowned conductors like Mikhail Pletnev and Sir Mark Elder. His recitals grace prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, London’s Wigmore Hall, and Paris’s Salle Gaveau.
He maintains an active recording career with labels like Harmonia Mundi, praised for interpretations of Rachmaninoff and Beethoven. Notable accolades include top prizes from the Busoni, Hamamatsu, and Van Cliburn Competitions. Kobrin is also a dedicated pedagogue, teaching at Eastman since 2017, with prior roles at the Russian State Gnessin Academy and NYU’s Steinhardt School. He contributes to global music education via masterclasses in Asia and Europe.
Upcoming projects include the Complete Beethoven Sonatas recording for Centaur Records and performances at Eastman during the 2023-2024 season. Kobrin serves on international competition juries, including the Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli Competition, and is a Shigeru Kawai Artist.
