Dr. Alexander Ivanov is an Associate Professor at Northeastern University's Department of Chemistry & Chemical Biology and a Faculty Fellow at the Barnett Institute of Chemical and Biological Analysis. His expertise lies in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Mass Spectrometry, with a focus on proteomics and extracellular vesicles (EVs). Ivanov earned his Ph.D. in Bioorganic Chemistry from the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2000 and held postdoctoral and research roles at Harvard University before re-joining Northeastern in 2011.
His research emphasizes EV characterization, proteoform analysis, and translational applications in disease treatment. Key achievements include developing methods for sensitive proteomic profiling of limited samples and EV lipidomics/proteomics. Ivanov has secured grants, including a $1.5M NIH award for EV sampling techniques, and collaborates with institutions like Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Thermo Fisher Scientific.
Notable awards include the 2015 American Society for Mass Spectrometry Research Award. His lab, the Ivanov Lab, trains graduate and undergraduate students in proteomics and EV research, with alumni working in academia and industry. Publications span over 100 peer-reviewed articles, focusing on EV biology, proteoform heterogeneity, and mass spectrometry innovations.
