Professor Alexander Holden is a Clinical Professor at the University of Sydney School of Dentistry, serving as Head of Specialist Services at Sydney Dental Hospital and Oral Health Services and Head of Subject Area for Professional Practice. He holds specialist registration in Public Health Dentistry and is internationally recognized for work on oral health systems, dental ethics, and healthcare professionalism. His research focuses on oral health sociology, dental professionalism, and ethical issues in cosmetic dentistry. Holden has authored over 60 peer-reviewed publications and serves on editorial boards, including the Journal of Bioethical Inquiry.
He completed degrees in dentistry, law, and public health in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. His academic roles include teaching dental ethics, professionalism, and public health, alongside governance responsibilities. Holden is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Legal Medicine and the College of General Dentistry, and a Board Director for organizations such as the Australian Dental Association NSW Branch.
