Alexander Green is an Assistant Professor of Humanities at the Hamilton Center for Classical and Civic Education, University of Florida. He previously taught at the University of Buffalo. His research focuses on medieval Jewish philosophy, virtue ethics, and the history of biblical interpretation. Key projects include a forthcoming book on Maimonides’ moral psychology under contract with Oxford University Press, which examines emotions like love, fear, and compassion in Maimonides’ thought. Green’s published works include Power and Progress: Joseph Ibn Kaspi and the Meaning of History (2019) and The Virtue Ethics of Levi Gersonides (2016). His research bridges classical Jewish thought with contemporary virtue ethics, exploring themes like theological virtues, political theology, and ethical leadership.
Education: Ph.D. in Religion (University of Toronto, 2013), M.A. in Jewish Thought (Hebrew University of Jerusalem, 2009), B.A. in Political Science and Jewish Studies (University of Toronto, 2006).
Teaching includes courses on Jewish thought, philosophy of religion, and classical texts like Sefer ha-Ikkarim and Kuzari. His work often engages with medieval philosophers such as Gersonides, Ibn Kaspi, and Albo, analyzing their contributions to virtue ethics and political theory. Current projects explore the interplay between power, knowledge, and religious commitment in Jewish philosophy.
