Dr. Alexander Crizzle is a Professor in the Department of Public Health at the University of Saskatchewan. He serves as Director of the PhD Public Health Program and Director of the Driving Research and Simulation Laboratory (DRSL). His work focuses on gerontology, transportation safety, and public health. Dr. Crizzle’s research addresses fitness-to-drive assessments, clinical interventions, and urban planning solutions for older drivers, individuals with neurodegenerative diseases, and long-haul truck drivers.
Research Interests: Dr. Crizzle investigates driving simulation technology for rehabilitation, pedestrian safety, microsimulation for urban design, and health disparities in commercial motor vehicle drivers. His lab (DRSL) houses advanced car and commercial vehicle simulators alongside clinical testing equipment for vision and cognition. Recent projects include studies on truck stop environments, vaccine hesitancy, and dementia-related driving cessation strategies.
Labs & Funding: The DRSL’s infrastructure was supported by the Canadian Foundation for Innovation, Saskatchewan Government Insurance, and provincial funding. Dr. Crizzle collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to develop evidence-based guidelines for driver fitness assessments and transportation accessibility.
Teaching: Teaches PUBH 804 (Foundations), PUBH 840 (Capstone), PUBH 807 (Health Program Planning), and PUBH 990 (Seminar in Public Health).
