Alekseev's research focuses on political discourses of populist radical right parties in the European Union, with particular attention to Poland and France. His methodological approach combines ideology and discourse analysis with insights from political theory. His recent publications reveal a consistent analytical thread examining how these parties manipulate contested political concepts like democracy, sovereignty, and rights through strategic discursive framing. His work demonstrates sophisticated understanding of how populist rhetoric constructs national identities while simultaneously challenging EU integration norms.
His academic service includes extensive peer review activities for journals including Politics and Governance, Journal of Contemporary European Studies, and Populism, alongside regular participation in major international conferences such as the World Congress of Political Science and ECPR General Conference. His current research trajectory shows increasing engagement with interdisciplinary approaches connecting emotions research with political discourse analysis.
Alekseev is currently contributing to the CO3 Horizon Europe research consortium (COntinuous COnstruction of resilient social COntracts), investigating how social contracts are maintained during crises. Previously, he participated in the NTUS project examining hegemonic mobilizations in Central and Eastern Europe, demonstrating his regional expertise beyond Western Europe.
