Dr. Alex Souchen is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at the University of Guelph, cross-appointed to the Bachelor of Arts and Science Program. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Western Ontario (2016), and M.A. and B.A. from the University of Ottawa (2010 and 2008). His research focuses on the history of science, technology, warfare, and the environment in the 20th century, particularly Canada’s military-industrial complex and the environmental impacts of warfare.

- Underwater munitions disposal and its environmental legacy
- Health hazards in Canada’s Second World War munitions industry
He has authored War Junk: Munitions Disposal and Postwar Reconstruction in Canada (2020) and co-edited Silent Partners: The Origins and Influence of Canada’s Military-Industrial Complex (2023). His work bridges military, environmental, and technological history, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches.
Teaching includes courses on science and technology in global contexts, Canada and the Second World War, and the intersection of warfare and the environment.
