Alex Muriithi Gateri is a Research Fellow and PhD candidate in Medical Anthropology and Global Health at the University of Oslo's Department of Community Medicine and Global Health (Faculty of Medicine). His doctoral research focuses on antibiotic use in Tanzania's Kilimanjaro region, examining socioeconomic, ecological, and material conditions influencing antimicrobial practices in livestock farming. Supervised by Prof. Heidi Fjeld, Prof. Ruth Prince, and Prof. Anne Kveim, his work is part of the 'From Asia to Africa: Antibiotic trajectories across the Indian Ocean' project.
Education: BA and MA in Anthropology from the University of Nairobi. Previous roles include Research Officer at the African Population and Health Research Center (Nairobi), focusing on health determinants, TB/HIV, gender studies, and higher education research. His expertise bridges medical anthropology, global health, and One Health frameworks.
