Research focuses on macromolecular design, advanced materials, bio-nano hybrids, self-assembly, and nanotechnology. Key themes include integrating biological functions into synthetic systems (e.g., biosensors, nanoactuators) and developing nanostructured materials for drug delivery or electronic applications. His work emphasizes molecular design and novel synthesis methods to achieve functional materials.
Recent publications highlight breakthroughs in photoswitchable nanoparticles, supracence phenomena, and high-resolution cell imaging techniques. Awards include the Arnold & Mabel Beckman Young Investigator Award (2003) and R&D 100 Award (1995).
- Awards:
- Arnold and Mabel Beckman Young Investigator Award (2003)
- R&D 100 Award (1995)
- Los Alamos Director’s Fellow (1990–1992)
His lab explores interdisciplinary approaches at the intersection of chemistry, physics, and biology, with applications in nanotechnology, bioimaging, and material science.
