Alex Jokipii

Alex Jokipii is Principal Trumpet of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and Adjunct Instructor of Trumpet at SUNY Fredonia School of Music since 1998. He earned a Master of Music in Trumpet Performance from The Juilliard School and pursued doctoral studies at Western Michigan University (WMU), where he studied at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki under Timofei Dokschitzer.

Jokipii has performed as a soloist with major orchestras including Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 2, Arutunian’s Concerto, and world premieres like Jaakko Kuusisto’s Trumpet Concerto (2017). He has recorded with the SUNY Fredonia Wind Ensemble and the Buffalo Philharmonic.

His career includes guest performances with the New York Philharmonic, Dallas Symphony, and Aspen Festival Orchestra. He has taught at Charleston Southern University and conducted masterclasses internationally in Poland and domestically at institutions like the University of Miami and Michigan State University.
