Dr. Alex Gregory is an Associate Professor at the University of Southampton, specializing in ethics, metaethics, moral psychology, and the philosophy of wellbeing and disability. He is a member of the Southampton Ethics Centre and supervises PhD students such as Liam Alexander Livesley. His research focuses on desire-as-belief theories, hedonic adaptation, and disability ethics. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Reading (2011) and previously taught there before joining Southampton in 2013.
Education: B.A. and M.A. from the University of Nottingham (2002–2005), PhD from the University of Reading (2011).
Research Interests: Includes metaethics, moral psychology, wellbeing concepts, and disability studies. He has authored a book defending desire-as-belief theory and is currently writing on the fittingness of happiness. He also edited The Routledge Handbook of the Philosophy of Desire.
External Roles: Served as a consultant on Health Research Ethics Committee (2016–2017) and SHIP8 CCGs priorities committee (2016–2019), and is a member of The British Society for Ethical Theory (BSET).
Teaching: Offers modules on Happiness and Wellbeing, and Truth, Knowledge, and Objectivity.
