Àlex Ferrer Ferre is a Serra-Hunter Associate Professor at the Department of Physics, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) in Barcelona, and an associate researcher at the International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE). His research focuses on topology optimization, computational mechanics, and advanced material design. He holds a PhD in Computational Mechanics from UPC (2017) and has conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Oxford and École Polytechnique. Key roles include teaching courses like Flight Mechanics and leading the Swan project for topology optimization software. His work integrates academic and industrial collaborations with entities like ESA and INEGI.
Research interests span multiscale design, topology optimization for additive manufacturing, and fracture mechanics. Major projects include the TopSat CubeSat chassis project (ESA-funded) and the Flexion project on flexible material design.
