معرفی
Alessio Bosio serves as Associate Professor at the University of Parma's Department of Mathematical, Physical and Computer Sciences, leading the Thin Film Laboratory (ThiFiLab) since 2010 and directing the Building Integrated Photovoltaics project. His 35+ year career includes pivotal roles in EU Framework Programs and national research initiatives.
He earned his Master's degree in Physics with Solid State Physics specialization from the University of Parma in 1986. Career milestones include Tenured University Researcher (1990-2000), Aggregate Professor (2000-2022), and National scientific qualification as full professor (2020).
Prof. Bosio's research centers on photovoltaic materials and thin film device engineering, with expertise in polycrystalline solar cells (CdTe/CdS, CuInGaSe2), thin film electroluminescent devices (ZnS:Mn), and advanced deposition techniques (sputtering, CSS). Current work explores Ga2O3-based UV photodetectors and earth-abundant absorbers like CuSbS2 and Sb2Se3, targeting sustainable high-efficiency energy conversion.
Analysis of recent publications (2023-2025) reveals three dominant research thrusts: gallium oxide polymorph engineering for UV detection, antimony-chalcogenide solar absorbers via novel deposition methods, and interface/defect physics in thin-film devices. This work bridges fundamental material science with industrial applications, emphasizing cost-effective manufacturing and performance optimization.
His scientific recognition includes:
- Best invention in Italy for renewable energies (2007) for CdTe solar cell back-contact patent
Prof. Bosio has advised 5 PhD students and 50+ master/bachelor theses. Major funded projects include EU FP7 ALPINE (2009-2012), PRIN 2007 on flexible solar cells, and NRRP Ecosister (2021-2026), demonstrating sustained leadership in photovoltaic innovation and technology transfer.
As head of ThiFiLab, he directs a multidisciplinary team specializing in thin film deposition and characterization, contributing to both academic research and industrial partnerships including Arendi SpA and SpoT spin-off.
