معرفی
Alessia Monaco is an Associate Professor in the Department of Architecture and Design (DAD) at the Polytechnic University of Turin, where she conducts cutting-edge research in structural engineering with a focus on masonry and reinforced concrete structures, numerical modeling, and innovative composite materials for structural strengthening. She teaches in both undergraduate and graduate programs, including courses on structural analysis, rehabilitation, and nonlinear modeling.
- Research Interests: Her work centers on the structural behavior of masonry vaults and arches, seismic analysis of RC structures with dissipative devices, shear performance of composite truss beams, and the use of TRM and FRP composites for strengthening. She integrates experimental and computational methods to develop sustainable, low-damage solutions for heritage and modern buildings.
- Publications & Research Output: With over 80 peer-reviewed publications, an h-index of 18, and more than 750 citations, her research is widely recognized. Her recent articles emphasize adaptive 3D modeling, flax-based composites, friction damping systems, and structural health monitoring sensors.
The trends in her publications reflect a strong emphasis on computational structural analysis, sustainable materials (especially natural fiber composites), seismic resilience, and the rehabilitation of historical masonry structures. She leverages finite element modeling, experimental validation, and international collaboration to advance durable and innovative construction technologies.
- Scientific Awards and Recognition:
- Co-inventor of Italian Patent No. 102019000016742 for a seismic dissipation system in building structures.
Advising and Research Grants: She supervises PhD students, including Mattia Baldassari, and leads major national research projects. Currently, she is the Principal Investigator (PI) of the PRIN 2022 PNRR project REVHEAL, focused on rehabilitating heritage vaults using adaptive 3D models, and the deputy PI of REHARZE, targeting zero-emission retrofitting of historic architecture. She also serves as Scientific Director of collaborative agreements with the University of Genoa.
Labs and Research Groups: She collaborates internationally with the RILEM TC-290 research group on the durability of inorganic matrix composites for masonry strengthening, contributing to global standards and knowledge exchange in sustainable structural rehabilitation.
