Alessandro Stanziani

Alessandro Stanziani is a CNRS Research Director and Director of Studies at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS) in Paris, France. His work bridges economic history, labor systems, and global history, with a focus on coercion, market regulation, and food security.

Scientific Contributions include a 2024 CNRS Silver Medal and leadership of international research networks like the 2015-2018 CNRS GDRI on Global History. His recent publications analyze grain as a geopolitical weapon (Les guerres du blé, 2024) and the global history of seeds (La bataille mondiale des semences, 2024).

Academic Leadership includes editorial roles at Histoire et mesure, membership in scientific councils (EHESS, 2013-2017), and directing the PSL IRIS program Global Studies (2016-2019).
