Alessandro D’Arma is an Associate Professor of Media and Communication and Director of the CAMRI PhD Programme at the University of Westminster. He holds a Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). Currently serving as Co-President of the International Association of Public Media Researchers (IAPMR, 2021–2024), he previously led the Public Service Media Policies Working Group at IAMCR (2016–2021). His research focuses on communications policy, political economy of media industries, and digital transformation of media, particularly public service media (PSM). He has authored Media and Politics in Contemporary Italy and numerous peer-reviewed articles in journals like Media, Culture & Society and Journal of Information Policy.
Research & Grants: He led an AHRC-funded project (Innovation in PSM Policies, 2019–2021), collaborating with stakeholders like BBC and OfCom. His work bridges academic and policy realms, advocating for PSM’s digital-era relevance. He has served as an External Examiner at multiple UK universities (e.g., Royal Holloway, Brunel).
Academic Services: Member of AHRC Peer Review College, ESF College of Expert Reviewers, and technē DTP Representative. He advises PhD students in areas like media policy, political economy, and industry studies.
Awards: SFHEA (Senior Fellowship of HEA). His recent articles address PSM’s adaptation to streaming platforms, epistemic rights in digital media, and regulatory challenges in Italy and beyond.
Key Projects: Co-authored reports on ‘Public Service Internet’ manifestos and evaluated children’s media content strategies across Europe. Current studies explore PSM’s role in fostering democratic communication amid platform capitalism.
