Alessandra Montanini is an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemistry, Life Sciences and Environmental Sustainability at the University of Parma, Italy. She has been affiliated with the University of Parma since 1994, initially as an Assistant Professor and later as an Associate Professor since 2019. Her research focuses on the petrology and geochemistry of ophiolites and mantle peridotites, particularly in the Mediterranean region and New Caledonia.
- Education:
- 1987: Graduated cum laude in Geological Sciences, University of Parma
- 1992: PhD in Earth Sciences, University of Bologna
Montanini's research interests include:
- Geochemical heterogeneity of the mantle
- Recycling of crustal material into the mantle
- Redox conditions in mantle processes
- Petrogenesis of ophiolitic sequences in varied geodynamic settings
- Evolution of mantle during extensional tectonics
Her recent publications emphasize mantle pyroxenites, mantle recycling, and the geochemical evolution of ophiolites. She has also been involved in several funded projects, including studies on natural hydrogen emissions and sulfur recycling in the mantle.
Montanini has held editorial roles as Associate and Executive Editor of the journal Ofioliti and has organized international workshops on ophiolites. She has presented over 100 contributions at conferences and delivered invited seminars at institutions like the University of Pavia and Université de la Nouvelle Calédonie.
