Alessandra Acocella is an Associate Professor in History of Contemporary Art at the University of Parma, where she teaches Contemporary Art History, Exhibition History, and Journalism and Art Criticism. She serves as President of the Degree Course in Communication and Contemporary Media for Creative Industries since 2024, and is actively involved in several research centers including EXHIBIT - Laboratory on Exhibition History, CAPAS - Center for Art Professions, and the Luciano Caruso Archive. She also acts as Associated PI for the PRIN PNRR 2022 project on non-European arts reception in Italy.

Her research focuses on 20th-century artistic avant-gardes, exhibition history, public art, and interactions between visual arts, architecture, and design. She explores the reception of non-European cultures in Italian art and verbo-visual art through extensive archival research and curatorial practice.
Recent publications analyze Italian avant-garde exhibitions from 1961-1971, diffused art practices in the 1960s, and word-image relationships in contemporary art systems. Her work traces connections between artistic experimentation and cultural infrastructure development in Italy.
