Aleksey Yaremchenko is a Tenured Principal Researcher (Investigador Principal) at the Department of Materials and Ceramic Engineering, University of Aveiro, affiliated with CICECO - Aveiro Institute of Materials. He holds a PhD in Chemistry from Belarusian State University (2002) and has over 20 years of research experience in energy materials and electrochemistry. His work focuses on solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), oxygen separation membranes, and nanostructured electrocatalysts, with contributions to materials synthesis and characterization techniques like glycine-nitrate combustion and mechanochemical activation.
Professional highlights include leading projects on energy conversion (e.g., CARBOSTEAM, DC-SOFEC) and supervising over 20 PhD/master students. He is an Associate Editor of Materials and serves on editorial boards of Solids and Frontiers in Energy Research. His research collaborations span international institutions, including Poland, Russia, and Sweden. With 178+ SCI publications and an h-index of 43, his work emphasizes defect chemistry, thermal stability, and redox behavior of oxides for energy applications.
Key achievements include developing novel cathode/anode materials for low-temperature SOFCs and advancing understanding of Ruddlesden-Popper nickelates for electrochemical systems. He also contributes to biomass gasification catalysts and high-temperature steam electrolysis technologies.
