Aleksandra Olbryk is a PhD student at the Doctoral School of Social Sciences at the University of Lodz and serves as an Assistant at the Department of European Economic Law within the Faculty of Law and Administration. Under the supervision of Professor Monika Namysłowska, she is working on her doctoral dissertation titled 'The Legal Limits of Green Nudging: Consumer Protection in the Age of Technology and Sustainability' (2023-2027). Her academic career demonstrates strong commitment to consumer protection law in digital environments.
Her educational background includes a Master's degree in Law from the University of Lodz (2018-2023), with a thesis on 'Recommendation Systems from the Perspective of EU Consumer Law,' for which she received the first prize from the UOKiK President. She has also participated in multiple French law programs including at University of Grenoble-Alpes, University of Tours, and University of Toulouse, earning French law diplomas. In 2024, she attended the INSEAD Summer School.
Dr. Olbryk's research focuses on the intersection of consumer protection law, digital technologies, and sustainability. She investigates how digital platforms, recommendation systems, and 'green nudging' techniques impact consumer decision-making autonomy. Her work critically examines the legal frameworks governing these technologies, particularly within the EU regulatory context, with special attention to the Digital Services Act and emerging challenges in AI-driven consumer markets. She explores the boundary between legitimate marketing practices and manipulative design patterns that undermine consumer autonomy.
Her publications and conference presentations consistently address contemporary challenges in digital consumer protection, with particular emphasis on dark patterns, greenwashing through digital means, and the regulatory response to algorithmic manipulation. Her work spans both theoretical legal analysis and practical policy recommendations, often drawing comparisons between EU and national approaches, particularly French regulatory frameworks.
Among her notable achievements are the 'Best Research Paper Award' received in December 2024, the distinction from the Competition Law Association for her Master's thesis, and multiple Rector's Scholarships recognizing her academic excellence. She has also received the Ministry of Science and Higher Education Scholarship 'Mistrzowie dydaktyki' for her tutoring work with talented students.
Dr. Olbryk actively contributes to research projects including 'Consumer Protection and Artificial Intelligence. Between Law and Ethics' funded by the National Science Centre, and serves as project manager for 'Legal limits of interference in consumer decision-making autonomy in the online environment.' She is Secretary of the Program Council of Forkon (Consumer Organizations Forum) and represents the Faculty of Law and Administration on the Young Scientists Development Council. Her involvement in the problem team for civil procedure digitization demonstrates her commitment to modernizing legal frameworks for the digital age.
She is also engaged in international collaboration through the Future Technology Law Clinic project funded by Erasmus+, working with universities across Europe to develop AI chatbots for legal applications. Her research bridges academic inquiry with practical policy development in consumer protection.
