Aleksandra Kroemeke is a Professor at SWPS University where she serves as Head of the Department of Health Psychology at the Faculty of Psychology in Warsaw and leads the Health & Coping Research Group within the Institute of Psychology. Her academic career centers on health psychology with a focus on stress coping mechanisms in chronic illness and aging populations.
Professor Kroemeke's research explores temporal dynamics of coping in chronic illness adaptation, examining trajectories of well-being in patient-partner dyads and individual/social coping resources. She investigates neuropsychological effects of physical activity in late adulthood and meaning reconstruction processes in cancer through psychological flexibility frameworks. Her work employs intensive longitudinal methodologies to capture dynamic psychological processes.
Her publication trends reveal strong emphasis on dyadic coping in serious medical contexts like hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, demonstrating how daily self-efficacy and social support influence mood regulation. Recent work extends to aging populations, analyzing coping flexibility and co-rumination effects on health-related quality of life using mixed-method longitudinal designs.
Professor Kroemeke has received significant recognition for her contributions:
- Rector's Award for Research (2017)
- Multiple Dean's Awards for Research from the Faculty of Psychology
She directs substantial research funding through National Science Centre projects while contributing to academic training through health psychology instruction. Her current research portfolio includes:
- Principal Investigator: "The Process of Restoring Meaning in Cancer" (National Science Centre)
- Co-Principal Investigator: "Providing Social Support and Health" (National Science Centre)
- Previously led: "Trajectories of Coping with Illness" (National Science Centre)
The Health & Coping Research Group under her leadership employs innovative longitudinal and experimental approaches to study stress adaptation mechanisms across diverse clinical populations.
