Aleksander Naumow is an Honorary Professor at Ca' Foscari University of Venice in the Department of Comparative Linguistic and Cultural Studies. Born in 1949 in Orneta, Poland, into an Orthodox priest's family, he has dedicated his academic career to Slavic studies with a focus on Orthodox Slavic literature and culture from the 9th to 18th centuries. His expertise spans Serbian and Croatian language and culture, Slavic philology, Church Slavonic literature, and Eastern European Church history.
Professor Naumow completed his education at Jagellonian University in Krakow (1966-71) where he later began his teaching and research career. He also taught at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan starting in 1995. His international experience includes positions as a language lecturer in Belgrade (1974-77) and Pisa (1980-84), and as a visiting professor at Genoa (1984-85), Yale University (1988), University of California-Berkeley (1991, 2000), and Ca' Foscari University (1996).
