Aleksandar Stanic-Kostic is an Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, with dual appointments in the Divisions of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and Reproductive Sciences. He serves as a physician-scientist at Generations Fertility Care and Meriter Hospital, specializing in female infertility, recurrent pregnancy loss, and in vitro fertilization (IVF) challenges.
- Education:
- Undergraduate: University of Novi Sad, Yugoslavia (1998)
- M.D./Ph.D.: Vanderbilt University School of Medicine (2000-2006)
- Postdoctoral Fellowship: Vanderbilt University School of Medicine
- Residency: Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School (2006-2010)
- Fellowship: Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School (2011-2014)
Dr. Stanic-Kostic’s research focuses on reproductive immunology, particularly the role of innate lymphoid cells and immune networks in maternal-fetal interface organization. His lab investigates conditions like preeclampsia, intrauterine growth restriction, recurrent pregnancy loss, and implantation failure in assisted reproductive technologies (ART) using human and murine models with genetic targeting. Collaborations with biostatisticians and computer scientists enable advanced analysis of high-dimensional flow cytometry data to model reproductive immune networks.
His recent work includes proteogenomic and single-cell RNA sequencing studies on decidual T cells and MAIT cells, cytokine signaling in placental development, and immune dysregulation in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Awards include the NIH/ Mead Johnson Early Career Investigator Award, Basil O’Connor Scholar Award, Preterm Birth Initiative Award, and the Best Poster Award at the American Society for Reproductive Immunology (ASRI) Conference.
Dr. Stanic-Kostic has secured grants such as the NIH R21 and Wisconsin National Primate Research Center pilot grant. He mentors graduate students and postdoctoral trainees, including Andrea Killian Wegrzynowicz and Soma Banerjee, and leads sessions on evidence-based management of recurrent pregnancy loss at major conferences like ASRM and ASRI.
