Alejandro N. Flores is a Professor in the Department of Geosciences at Boise State University, where he leads the Laboratory for Ecological Applications and Forecasting (LEAF). His research focuses on hydrology, regional climate change, critical zone ecohydrology, and applying modeling/simulation techniques to environmental systems.
His core research interests include: hydrological processes in changing climates, remote sensing of terrestrial systems, and integrating artificial intelligence/machine learning approaches in earth science. Current investigations examine how subsurface critical zone structures influence hydrological partitioning and how land cover changes impact global-scale rooting depths.
Professor Flores teaches courses including 'Water in the West' (GEOS 212), 'Land-Atmosphere Interaction' (GEOS 411), 'Research Computing for Earth Science' (GEOS 505), and 'Modeling Environmental Systems' (GEOS 518). He mentors graduate students across multiple programs including Hydrologic Science, Geoscience, Computing, and Ecology programs.
