Alejandro Cuza-Blanco is a Professor at Purdue University's School of Language and Cultures in the Department of Spanish and Linguistics. His research focuses on the psycholinguistic processes involved in second language acquisition, Spanish morphosyntax, semantics, and bilingualism.
- Ph.D. in Hispanic linguistics from the University of Toronto
His work examines language transfer, input conditions, and age of onset of bilingualism in Spanish heritage speakers, children, and adult learners. Current projects investigate morphosyntactic variation in Brazilian Portuguese, Chinese, and Catalan (Mallorquín) speakers.
Cuza-Blanco leads the Aprendiendo a Leer (Learning to Read) program, an after-school literacy initiative for K-5th grade Spanish-English bilingual children. This program collaborates with the Tippecanoe School Corporation and involves Purdue students in both teaching and research opportunities focused on heritage language acquisition.
Key publications include Inquires in Hispanic Linguistics: From Theory to Empirical Evidence (co-edited with Lori Czerwionka and Daniel Olson) and the forthcoming Cuban Spanish Dialectology: Variation, Contact and Change from Georgetown University Press.
