Gregory Newall is a Senior Instructor of Spanish in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at the University of South Carolina's College of Arts and Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Hispanic Linguistics from Indiana University (2012), an M.A. in Hispanic Linguistics from Indiana University (2005), and a B.A. in Spanish and International Studies from University of Richmond (2002). With over 15 years of teaching experience, he specializes in Hispanic Linguistics and is proficient with ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines.
His research focuses on sociolinguistic variation, Spanish language acquisition, and dialectology. His interests span morphosyntactic patterns, language attitudes in bilingual communities, and pedagogical approaches to second language instruction.
Courses taught include Basic Proficiency in Spanish, Intermediate Spanish II, Advanced Spanish, Advanced Conversation, and Advanced Composition.
