معرفی
Alejandro Caicedo-Vierkant, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Miami's Miller School of Medicine, with a specialization in endocrinology and diabetes research. He leads groundbreaking work at the Diabetes Research Institute (DRI) to understand human pancreatic islet physiology.
- Ph.D. in Sensory Neuroscience (University of Montpellier, France)
- M.S. in Anatomy of the auditory system (University of Tübingen, Germany)
Research Interests focus on:
- Signaling cascades in human pancreatic islets
- Paracrine communication via neurotransmitters
- Islet structure-function relationships
- Diabetes pathophysiology
- Cholinergic signaling mechanisms
- Intrapancreatic neural circuits
His recent publications highlight neuroendocrine interactions in pancreatic development and regenerative strategies like the ALK3 agonist THR-123 for beta-cell regeneration. Awards include the Stanley Glaser Research Award and NIH recognition as an Early Career Reviewer.
Dr. Caicedo actively mentors scientists, advising 2 graduate students and serving on committees for 9 others. He founded a visceral nervous system course and led ocular pharmacology training at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute.
