Dr. Alejandra Zarate-Potes is a Visiting Researcher at Lancaster University's Faculty of Health and Medicine, affiliated with the Biomedical and Life Sciences Department. Her work focuses on understanding host-microbe interactions using the nematode model Caenorhabditis elegans and associated bacteria. She employs multiomics techniques (transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics) alongside genetic and phenotypic analyses to study disease mechanisms and microbial influences on host health.
Current projects include mapping gut-bacteria genetic networks via a BBSRC grant (BB/S017127/1) awarded to Dr. Alex Benedetto. Active collaborations involve the Brazil-UK Partnership targeting gut microbiota health and resolving bottlenecks in transcriptomic data extraction. She contributes to the Centre of Excellence in Environmental Data Science and participated in outreach like the FURNESS STEM SHOW 2023.
Her research integrates cutting-edge methods such as RNA interference and microscopy-based phenotyping to dissect microbial pathogenesis and symbiotic relationships. Key interests span evolutionary microbiology, systems biology, and translational applications in infectious disease.
