Alexandre Benedetto

Dr. Alexandre Benedetto is a Senior Lecturer in Integrative Physiology at Lancaster University within the Biomedical and Life Sciences department. His research focuses on understanding host-microbiome communication in Caenorhabditis elegans, particularly through challenging conditions like infection, neurodegeneration, and aging. He combines multi-omics approaches, microfluidics, and single-cell imaging to unravel the gut-microbiota-brain axis and organismal death mechanisms.

His lab develops microfluidic platforms for live imaging and employs AI-driven bioinformatics to analyze complex datasets. Research spans aging biology, neurodegenerative disease models, and cancer biomedicine through collaborations with Dr. Richard Mort.

Teaching roles include module organization for Biology of Ageing (BIOL364) and supervision of undergraduate and MSc/MSci lab projects. He welcomes PhD/MSc students interested in C. elegans gut-microbiome interactions, organismal death regulation, and bioenergetics in cancer and aging.
