Alejandra Irigoyen is a Researcher at the Heidelberg Center for Ibero-American Studies (HCIAS) and a doctoral candidate at the University of Heidelberg's Faculty of Chemistry and Earth Sciences, supervised by Jun.-Prof. Dr. Rosa Lehmann. Her research focuses on climate governance in Chile, examining interrelations between global, national, and local scales in adaptation and mitigation strategies.
Education:
- Bachelor's in Sociology (Universidad Mayor de San Andrés, Bolivia)
- Master's in Sustainability, Society and the Environment (Christian-Albrechts-Universität Kiel, Germany)
Research Interests:
Her work combines human geography, communication science, and political science to analyze justice negotiations in sustainability transitions. Current projects include the JuTSy initiative, exploring climate justice in Latin America and the Caribbean, and prior work on polycentric climate governance in Argentina, Chile, and Mexico.
Recent Activities:
- Presented at the CEISAL 2025 conference (Paris, 2025) on energy transition debates in Chile
- Chaired a panel on climate change and geopolitics at the XII NOLAN CONFERENCE (Copenhagen, 2025)
