Dr. Alberto Ortega is an Assistant Professor at Indiana University's O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs, specializing in health and social policy with a focus on marginalized populations. His research addresses healthcare access, behavioral health, racial disparities, and crime-related policy. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Florida (2017) and has held fellowships such as the NSF Diversity Initiative for Tenure in Economics and the Emerging Poverty Scholars Fellowship. His work spans topics including Medicaid expansion impacts, opioid crisis effects, and racial segregation consequences. Dr. Ortega teaches applied microeconomics and public policy courses and serves on the American Society for Hispanic Economists' communications committee.
