Professor Alberto Nettel Aguirre holds dual roles as Honorary Professor in the School of Social Sciences and Professor of Biostatistics in the School of Mathematics and Applied Statistics at the University of Wollongong. He also directs the Centre for Health and Social Analytics. With over 20 years of expertise, he specializes in methodological rigor for health research, bridging clinical/medical challenges with statistical solutions through observational studies and trials. His work emphasizes global health intervention science and implementation strategies.
Current research focuses include operationalizing diversity in healthcare AI datasets and enhancing public trust in secondary use of medical data. He co-supervises doctoral students in Canada and Australia, focusing on mitochondrial dynamics in neurodegenerative diseases and social media health communication strategies.
