Albert Welter is a Professor at the University of Arizona, specializing in Chinese and Japanese Buddhism, particularly from the late Tang to Song dynasties. His work examines Buddhist interactions with Neo-Confucianism, secularism, and literati culture.
Research interests include East Asian Buddhist transmission, sacred geography, and doctrinal evolution. He leads the Hangzhou Region Buddhist Culture Project, funded by the Khyentse Foundation and collaborating with Zhejiang University and other institutions.
