Albert Park is Chair Professor of Social Science, Professor of Economics, and Head of the Department of Economics at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). He also serves as Professor of Public Policy and Director of the Center for Economic Policy at HKUST, and is a Senior Fellow of the Institute for Advanced Study.
His educational background includes an A.B. (magna cum laude) in Economics from Harvard College (1988) and a Ph.D. in Economics from Stanford University (1996). Previously, he held faculty positions at the University of Michigan and University of Oxford.
Professor Park specializes in development and labor economics with a focus on the Chinese economy. His research spans poverty and inequality, health and education systems, migration patterns, employment dynamics, aging populations, and firm performance in China. He has co-directed major survey research projects including the China Employer-Employee Survey (CEES), China Urban Labor Survey (CULS), Gansu Survey of Children and Families (GSCF), and China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS).
His scholarly contributions have been recognized through research fellowships with prestigious international organizations and editorial positions with leading economics journals.
