Albert Doja is a Full Professor of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Lille, France, and a founding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Albania. He holds a PhD in Social Anthropology from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) and an HDR (Habilitation) from Paris Descartes University. His academic leadership roles include positions at institutions such as Harvard University (Visiting Scholar), University College London (Honorary Fellow), and the United Nations Development Program (Deputy Rector of the University of Durres, Albania).
His interdisciplinary research focuses on political anthropology, religious politics, identity transformations, and structural analysis. Notable projects include studies on Bektashi Sufism, the instrumentalization of religion in nationalism, and the socio-cultural dynamics of migration and European integration. Dr. Doja has authored/co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications and serves on editorial boards of journals like Anthropology Today and Polis.
His awards include the FWO Belgium Commemorative Medal and recognition as a leading scholar in Southeast European studies. He has led international research initiatives funded by UNESCO, EUSSIRF, and the Open Society Institute.
