Alastair J. Fraser

Professor Alastair J. Fraser is a Visiting Professor in the Department of Earth Science & Engineering at Imperial College London's Faculty of Engineering. He holds the EGI Chair in Petroleum Geoscience (2010-present) and has affiliations with the Basins Research Group and Energy BIO. Previously, he worked at BP for over 30 years as a Petroleum Geologist/Exploration Manager, leading major projects like the Plutonio discovery in Angola. He is a Co-Editor of Petroleum Geoscience journal and has held roles such as Honorary Professor at the University of Manchester and Secretary of the Geological Society's Petroleum Group.

Education: BSc in Geology from Edinburgh University (1977), PhD in Geology from Glasgow University (1995).

Research focuses on rift basin origins, petroleum systems analysis, and exploration strategies in regions like the Arctic, South Atlantic, and North Sea. His work emphasizes play fairway analysis and prospect evaluation in extensional basins.
