Professor Alastair Buckley is a faculty member at the University of Sheffield within the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences. He serves as the School Director of Education and leads the White Rose Industrial Physics Academy cross-university initiative. His research spans energy technologies, polymer optoelectronics, and photovoltaic systems.
- Chemical Physics Degree
- PhD in Spectroscopic Measurements of Discharge Lighting
His research focuses on three complementary themes: (1) Polymer Optoelectronics involving electrode interfaces and energy transfer mechanisms; (2) Photovoltaic Systems integration into national grids with National Grid collaboration; and (3) Future Energy Systems through interdisciplinary knowledge production. This work has attracted EPSRC and higher education innovation funding.
Key publication trends include solar technology (PV systems, perovskite solar cells), organic electronics (OLEDs, polymer solar cells), and energy systems modeling (agrivoltaics, economic impacts). He co-edited Organic Light-Emitting Diodes (OLEDs): Materials, Devices and Applications (2013).
He leads the Materials Physics Group and contributes to the Microgen database, the UK's largest PV research dataset. His teaching includes modules on industrial projects, enterprise culture, and computational physics tools like LabVIEW.
