Alasdair Bowie is an Associate Professor of Political Science and International Affairs at George Washington University, specializing in comparative political economy, development, and Southeast Asia. He is a full-time faculty member affiliated with the MA Asian Studies program.
Education: Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley.
Research Interests:
- State-society relations in economic transformation
- Central-local government dynamics in Vietnam and Indonesia
- Economic governance in Southeast Asia
Key Contributions: Co-author of The Politics of Open Economies: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand and author of Crossing the Industrial Divide: State, Society, and the Politics of Economic Transformation in Malaysia.
Awards: Recognized as a Woodrow Wilson Fellow and Fulbright Research Scholar. Current research focuses on comparative analysis of Vietnam and Indonesia's governance structures.
